Born in 1850, CC Filson inherited his father's pioneering spirit and love of nature. After growing up in Nebraska and moving around the country as a railroad executive, he moved to the small town of Seattle, Washington in the 1890s. Filson's timing couldn't have been better. In 1897, the Great Klondike Gold Rush began, and thousands of fortune hunters stampeded north through Seattle where he ran a small outfit shop. To meet the needs of gold miners, CC Filson founded Pioneer Alaska Clothing & Blankets Manufacturing in 1897. Filson provided gold miners with a variety of outdoor products including clothing, blankets, boots and sleeping bags. After the Gold Rush ended around 1899, Filson shifted its focus to providing equipment for outdoor-oriented activities and professions including hunting, fishing and camping.
