Our Journeyman Backpack offers generous capacity and comfortably carries your load while hiking or working. The Journeyman does its job quietly and expertly.

We've combined the strengths of several of our signature materials to create our best-selling pack. The main compartment is made from Tin Cloth with an Oil Finish that protects your gear from rain, sleet and snow, just as generations of lumberjacks and sportsmen have used it in the rain-soaked forests of the Pacific Northwest. Tin Cloth is a tightly woven canvas that has been carefully impregnated with a paraffin wax formulation, ensuring maximum water repellency. Our industrial-strength 2-ply and 3-ply Rugged Twill forms the back wall, reinforces the base and provides additional structure and durability. The padded shoulder straps are made from Tin Cloth and lined with Moleskin, a cotton fleece that prevents slipping and improves breathability. The curved, adjustable straps are made from vegetable-tanned Bridle leather from Wickett & Craig, the historic Pennsylvania tannery from 1867, attached to the backpack. Our Bridle Leather hides are slowly soaked in an environmentally friendly bark tanning solution, with tallow and waxes added in the final stages for suppleness and shine. The end result is a leather that is equally suitable for our luggage as it is for bridles and saddlery.

The Journeyman's lined main compartment is closed with a solid brass YKK® zipper, which is protected from water by a full-length Tin Cloth edge. The zipper runs more than halfway down the pack to allow access and visibility to the inside of the backpack. The padded back panel protects against sharp or bulky objects, and the padded inner compartment has space for a 15-inch (38 cm) laptop. The outer pocket has snap fasteners on the corners so that it can be remains unobtrusive or can be expanded to increase capacity. The one-handed opening and closing flap with snap fastener ensures that your quickly accessible items stay dry. Additional details such as the handle, the snap fastener above the protective edge of the main compartment and the zippers are made of bridle leather and round off a well thought-out, well-made backpack that will serve you reliably for many kilometers.
